The Carousel Ballroom dancers perform monthly, usually on a Sunday afternoon, at various venues such as assisted living facilities and senior living residences on behalf of the MASSabda Outreach to Seniors and Disabled program. This Outreach program has been bringing entertainment to many audiences for more than 40 years. Emma Lee founded the Outreach program and her daughter, Anita Murphy, has continued it.
Our performances are 60 – 75 minutes long and include all styles of ballroom dancing and sometimes jazz and tap depending on which dancers are available to perform. We occasionally have had other styles of dance in our shows as well. An Irish step dancer has performed at a few shows in past years as well as Vietnamese nuns performing a hat dance. Steve Cavanaugh, a line dance choreographer and knowledgeable line dancer, has led audiences in a chair or standing line dance at many of our shows. Dave Murphy is the MC and entertains the audience with his humor.
Our dancers give generously of their time and talent to bring smiles and happiness to the audiences. The dancers get great satisfaction from comments such as “You have made my day”, “This is the best show that we have ever seen here”, “Please come back”, “Bless you for doing this.”
We could not continue these shows without our great and talented dancers. I would like to give many thanks to those who danced in 2019: Erin Brogna, George Carifio, John Carmillia, Steve and Laurie Cavanaugh, Terry and Kathleen Fancher, Deb Feudo, Irina Ginzburg, Bill and Cynthia Harrop, Paul Hughes, Catherine and Gary Jaspershon, Katie Lawson, Vera Lee, Anita and Dave Murphy, Vera and Ihor Mykyta, Anthony Pasquariello, and Judy Silverstein. I would like to give special thanks to Vera Lee and John Carmillia who have entertained audiences in our shows for 25 years and retired from the shows in 2019. We are going to miss them and will especially miss their Argentine Tango whip routine.
